It is a unique name that your website will have on the internet so that anyone in the world can visit it with a Wi-Fi, mobile data or internet connection. 

Domain example: Cleefcompany.com – minegocio.com and etc… 

It can have different types of endings depending on the country you are living in, the purpose of your business, or what you need the domain for.

The most common domain endings

  1. .com
  2. .org
  3. .net
  4. .info
  5. .biz

Types of domains

There are several types of domains in the world of the internet, such as: 

Top Level Domains (TLD) 

TLD domains have international characters. 

Example of domains higher level

   – .com: example.com

   – .org: example.org

   – .net: example.net

   – .gov: example.gov

   – .edu: example.edu

   – .info: example.info

   – .biz: example.biz

Geographic top level domains or Country Code top level domains (ccTLD)

This type of domain is specific to a country. See the table for clear examples

   – .ca: example.ca (Canada)

   – .au: example.au (Australia)

   – .de: example.de (Germany)

   – .jp: example.jp (Japan)

Third-level domains

Third-level domains are the extension of a geographic-level domain at the end of a top-level domain.

– blog.example.com (blog is the subdomain)

– store.example.com (store is the subdomain)

– mail.example.com (mail is the subdomain)

Subdomain

A subdomain is a keyword that you add before a domain name to categorize or organize your website into different sections.

Example of subdomains 

– blog.cleefcompany.com 

– tienda.cleefcompany.com 

– mail.cleefcompany.com

I'm sure you know what types of domains exist, now you need to decide which type of domain to use for your business.

A domain of national or international character. 

If your business is focused on a national audience, you should choose a domain from 100% top geographic level that ends in .cl, .es or depends on the country where you live or want to establish the business.

If you want to focus on an international audience, you should choose a .com domain, because this type of extension will give you greater international reach. 

It's important to mention that there are paid and free domains with some extension depending on the company that provides it to you to create your website.

Paid domain or free domain?

A paid domain gives you maximum control to make any changes you want, while with a free domain, you have no control whatsoever. Furthermore, you don't own a free domain.

Example of a paid and free domain

Paid domain: https://www.cleefcompany.com

Free domain: https://www.wordpress.com/minegocio.

It is important to note that some companies offer free domains for a specific period of time or as part of a service plan.

These free domains then become paid domains when the grace period ends.

You can choose the domain name you want for your company in this case.

Example: At Cleefcompany.com, we offer a free domain for one year. After that year, you must pay for the domain if it's not included in your Website Plan renewal, or you can accept losing your website domain so someone else can register it to create their online business.
